Frequently Asked Questions about Six Month Braces
How is it possible to only have braces for 6 months?
Dr. Hudson is using the latest techniques and technology to move teeth quickly and safely. It is important to note that our Six Month Smile technique aims at treating the cosmetic areas in adult smiles. It is NOT comprehensive orthodontics. The front teeth can be straightened very quickly, so we are able to finish these types of cases quickly. Movement of molars and bite discrepancies take much longer and those cases are better handled by an orthodontist.
How will I look with these braces on?
We use tooth colored brackets and wires, thus making them practically invisible.
How are Six Month Braces different than Invisalign?
Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays that progressively move the teeth. They straighten the teeth, but take much longer to do it (often more than a year of treatment!). Our braces are a bit more visible, but move the teeth significantly faster and actually cost less money!
Are Six Month Braces more painful than regular braces?
No. The technique uses very light forces to move the teeth comfortably. Some patients may experience temporary discomfort for the first few days, just like they would with traditional braces.
Do braces damage the teeth, roots, or gums in any way?
Our technique uses light force to safely move the teeth. There is no evidence of short term orthodontics being any more damaging than traditional braces.
Do I have to wear a retainer?
Yes. A retainer is necessary after any orthodontic procedure. Because our teeth have "muscle memory", the teeth have a tendency to shift back to their original position if a retainer is not used. We recommend a permanent, bonded retainer.
